(sotto)

Write.

Anyone who’s ever written a screenplay knows that screenwriting software can be frustrating — whether you’re an aspiring filmmaker working on a pirated copy of Final Draft 13, or a hardened industry professional working on a pirated copy of Final Draft 13. Too much of what’s out there is expensive, bloated, buggy, or all three.

That was our experience, at least. We’re professional screenwriters. We make a living putting words on the page. And none of the software we were using was making that process enjoyable. So, to paraphrase Thanos from Age of Ultron, we thought — fine, we’ll do it ourselves.

CUT TO:

(sotto) Write.

It’s built by screenwriters, for screenwriters.

It features all the stuff you actually use, and none of the stuff you don’t. (And everything is readily available on the screen, not buried in a menu system that looks like something straight out of Windows ’95.)

All your formatting needs.

Robust autosave, backed up in the cloud.

Import and export across all the big filetypes.

A UI that’s actually nice to look at.

(Well, you can judge that last one for yourself, but we think dark mode is objectively sexy.)

And then there’s the stuff we wished we had, but could never find reliably in other software.

Write together. From anywhere.

A seamless collaboration mode that lets you and your writing partner edit at the same time, from anywhere in the world. Particularly useful in our case, as we’re based on opposite sides of the globe — Los Angeles and Australia respectively.

Cheat the margins.

A “margin cheat” system that saves you the hassle of manually adjusting margins to squeeze that one annoying word back into the previous line. (Yes, we’ve all done this. No, no producer in Hollywood ever notices nor cares.)

Actually affordable.

Something that doesn’t cost hundreds up front, or hundreds in a year’s worth of monthly subscriptions.

SottoWrite is all those things: fully-featured but streamlined, quiet but powerful, and about as affordable as we can make it. Heck, it’s free for short films, if you don’t mind a cheeky watermark.

And it’s a buck a month to unlock everything.

We want to share SottoWrite with a screenwriting community who have been starved of viable alternatives.

We want SottoWrite to be available to everyone.

And most of all, we want to keep improving SottoWrite until it does anything when you ask it to… and stays the hell out of your way when you don’t.

Share it with your friends and colleagues. Create. Collaborate.

Write something brilliant.
